With Asia Pacific airlines reporting a 363.3% rise in international traffic for 2022 according to IATA, and China’s reopening set to further boost passenger numbers, a surge in traveller shopping is expected, especially at the Asian destinations likely to benefit first. TFWA Asia Pacific Conference, held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo Centre on Monday May 8 (9am – 1pm), will explore the opportunities thanks to a range of experts from within and beyond the industry. Changi Airport Group are official Conference hosts, with Dufry and Mondelez as platinum sponsors.

After opening thoughts from the TFWA and APTRA presidents, the Conference offers four industry-relevant sessions analysing the current context and outlook for Asia Pacific. A generous coffee break and networking lunch will allow attendees to meet and discuss the morning’s insights.

“Asia Pacific at the crossroads” sets the geopolitical and economic scene with former Singaporean Foreign Minister George Yeo, who will examine trade, big-power relations and their impact on the business environment across the region. The Conference then turns its focus to DF&TR with a panel session entitled “Preparing for growth”, featuring industry leaders from brands and retailers active in Asia Pacific. Product range, changing customer behaviour and the post-Covid business model are likely to feature among the talking points.

Following the coffee break sponsored by Lindt, the Conference continues with an update on the latest passenger flows in the “Asia Pacific travel outlook”. Will Chinese nationals resume their pre-Covid travel patterns? Which Asian destinations will attract returning passengers? Delegates will hear from ACI Asia Pacific and OAG on the evolving landscape for travel in the region. The morning’s final session will feature the latest data and insights on key Asian travelling nationalities, with input from brands and consumer experts.

After the Conference, the networking resumes over lunch and into the afternoon with refreshments available. The TFWA Asia Pacific Lounge, sponsored by Heineken, Duty Free Global, Korean Ginseng Corp and Brown-Forman, opens from 5pm.

TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition opens at 9am on Tuesday 9 May, closing at 5pm on Thursday 11.
