TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference
At a press conference this morning, the TFWA Board gave an upbeat assessment of the future of duty free and travel retail, while acknowledging the challenges ahead.

During the event, TFWA President Jaya Singh introduced the new TFWA Board and its future vision for the Association and the wider industry. This included preliminary details of its upcoming TFWA Asia Pacific Hainan Special Edition event, which will be hosted in Sanya from 10th May to 13th May next year.

The TFWA Asia Pacific Hainan Special Edition will feature a blend of both digital and physical elements, enabling full participation from delegates located across the world. The main conference will combine both live-streaming, virtual meetings and a physical on-site event. In place of an exhibition, duty free and travel retail brands will be able to host visitors in hotel and hospitality suites in line with local safety protocols.

Singh argued that the current crisis was an opportunity for industry players to create a new business model in order to "steer ourselves out of covid-19 and towards a bright future".

"We are living in unprecedented times. It is a time of silo breaking and of coming together, so that we as an industry can emerge much stronger from this crisis. There is a need to be financially prudent and to ensure that whatever we do is sustainable, but to also react quickly and scale up as the situation changes. I do truly believe the future is bright. People will continue to travel - that is a basic human desire that no-one can deny."
