Asutil Conference
Currently a global hotspot for international travel, South America is enjoying strong business momentum. Perfect timing for the continent’s premier DF&TR gathering, the ASUTIL Conference (18-21 June in Bogota).

Latin leadership

When in the space of a few weeks both the World Travel & Tourism Council and ACI World highlight Latin America as a hotspot, it’s time to look at the region more closely. WTTC’s 2024 Economic Impact Research report shows Latin American travel and tourism growing by over a third in US$ terms while adding proportionally more travel-related jobs than any other part of the globe. In its World Airport Traffic Forecasts, ACI World credits Latin America-Caribbean with the highest expected passenger uplift last year versus 2019 at 8% above pre-pandemic levels. Across a range of metrics, the region is currently experiencing a surge in travel.

Present and future

To be held in Colombia’s vibrant, green-fringed capital Bogota from 18 to 21 June, the 2024 ASUTIL Conference (managed by TFWA) will examine the current environment and future prospects for South American duty free and travel retail. Alongside assessments of the industry’s present state of health by ASUTIL and the Duty Free World Council, the programme includes sessions on digital strategy and consumer loyalty, LATAM consumer trends, spotlights on the beauty and confectionery categories, and analysis of the economic and travel retail outlook in the Andean region. Expert commentators like renowned economist Carlos Melconian will be joined by senior executives from retailers Avolta, Lagardère Travel Retail and Duty Free Americas and brands such as Shiseido, Coty and Nestlé.

Contact acquisition

Given the importance of informal contacts and casual conversations in this relationship-led industry, a comprehensive networking and social programme will feature in Bogota. In addition to the Welcome session and Cocktail, Gala Dinner and Closing Cocktail, an excursion to the subterranean Salt Cathedral at Zipaquirá is planned. There will also be dedicated networking sessions every day of the Conference along with coffee breaks and lunches, giving delegates extensive opportunities to meet existing partners and make new contacts. ASUTIL and TFWA are grateful to Avolta, Colonia Express, Carilux Duty Free, JTI, Mondelez International, Lindt, Campari Group, Heineken and Nestlé for their support of the networking and social activities, as well as to the event’s other sponsors.
